Training Practice

Tanfield View Medical Group is now a Training Practice.

This involves fully qualified doctors working in the practice for up to 12 months in order to become GPs.

What are the advantages of this?

Training Practices must meet higher standards than ordinary practices. Doctors who train others must have had extra training themselves. Doctors who have recently worked in hospital often bring new ideas and help the practice keep up to date.

Training doctors locally helps to make sure that there are enough GPs in the area.

Please let us know what you think.

DDES and ND CCGs warning over vitamin scam calls

Practices in ND and DDES CCGs have reported incidents of patients receiving unsolicited calls requesting their bank details in order to purchase vitamins.
The caller claims that they work for the NHS before stating that the patient requires vitamins that are to be paid for over the phone, resulting in charges of hundreds of pounds.
We encourage practices to raise awareness of this scam with patients, via practice newsletters and other appropriate forums.
Durham Constabulary advise that anyone who has been contacted in this way contact their bank as soon as possible to attempt to block the payment, and should report it to Action Fraud (the UK's national fraud and cyber-crime reporting centre) on 0300 123 2040.
To reduce the number of cold calls, register with the telephone preference service on 0345 070 0707 or www.tpsonline.org.uk
