Minor Ailment Scheme

If you don’t normally pay for your prescriptions and have one of the following conditions you can go to your local pharmacy and receive advice and medication (free of charge!) instead of seeing a GP or nurse.

  • Cough or sore throat
  • Headache, earache, temperature
  • Nasal congestion
  • Hay fever
  • Head lice
  • Indigestion/Heartburn
  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Thrush
  • Contact Dermatitis
  • Athletes Foot
  • Teething

You will need proof that you are registered with the practice so have either a tear off prescription slip or an NHS card. If you don’t have one of these you can collect a form from the surgery to confirm your registration.

The Nurse Practitioner is available to see most acute problems including the following list, but not depression or mental illness.

  • Earache
  • Throat pain
  • Mouth pain
  • Repeat of sick note
  • Hayfever
  • Red/sticky eyes
  • Children with first coughs
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting
  • Suspected urine infections (bring sample)
  • Simple chest infections
  • Rashes
  • Skin lumps and bumps
  • Repeat contraceptive pill
  • Skin injections
